Okay, let’s just keep track of my daily habits:

Daily Habits

Studying Flashcards with Anki Every Day

  • 200 Korean-Japanese vocabulary flashcards (100 forward and 100 reverse flashcards; plus reviews)
    • I didn’t manage to study any today.
    • I usually study these when I go for a walk, but I was really lazy today and didn’t go for my daily walk
    • To be honest, I wasted a lot of time watching YouTube videos, and I definitely could have finished this daily habit
  • 100 New Kanji to Keyword flashcards (plus reviews)
    • I actually started over from square one and finished studying 400 Kanji
  • 100 New Keyword to Kanji flashcards (plus reviews)
    • I didn’t do these today either
    • I should probably incorporate these into my daily walk habit too, since it doesn’t require any writing

Creating Data / Research

  • 100 Japanese words a day – Rewrite Japanese words in Pahanngana
    • My Japanese vocabulary spreadsheets are a total mess
    • I need to just get 5 good spreadsheets and forget the rest
      • JLPT 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 spreadsheets
    • I have too many copies, failed experiments, and junk spreadsheets, and I need to get rd of the junk
    • Once I get 5 good spreadsheets, I can both analyze vocabulary and make flashcards quickly and easily
  • 100 Kanji a day – Deconstructing Kanji / Rewriting Kanji Pieces a la Remembering the Kanji
      • 100 Kanji a day – Auditing my 3000 Kanji sound group research
    • I did about 43 Kanji today
    • This is not an incredibly important daily habit for my MEXT scholarship goal
    • However, it is important for writing my SImple Kanji books
  • 10 Kanji sound group analyses (like my published data before)
    • I didn’t do any today
    • I wonder if I should complete my audit first before I get back to this task
    • However, this task is essential to completing my MEXT scholarship: Portfolio goal
    • So I think I should keep the “Deconstructing Kanji” goal high, maybe 100 Kanji a day

Overall Goal:

  1. Apply for the Japanese Government MEXT Research/Master’s Scholarship and study in Okinawa, Japan

What do I need to accomplish this?

  1. Contact Japan Consulate in Los Angeles
    1. Find out requirements for scholarship application
      1. Find out the deadline for the 2022 Scholarship
    2. Ask them for help with the scholarship

Studying Flashcards with Anki Every Day

  • 200 Korean-Japanese vocabulary flashcards (100 forward and 100 reverse flashcards; plus reviews)
  • 100 New Kanji to Keyword flashcards (plus reviews)
  • 100 New Keyword to Kanji flashcards (plus reviews)

  • 100 Kanji a day – Deconstructing Kanji / Rewriting Kanji Pieces a la Remembering the Kanji
  • 10 Kanji sound group analyses (like my published data before)

Okay, I need to start measuring new metrics to measure my progress.

I successfully completed sorting my 3000 Kanji, so the hardest task of compiling the first draft of data is complete.

However, what do I need to measure next?

Here are some things that I think I can measure:

Studying Flashcards with Anki Every Day

  • 200 Korean-Japanese vocabulary flashcards (100 forward and 100 reverse flashcards; plus reviews)
  • 100 New Kanji to Keyword flashcards (plus reviews)
  • 100 New Keyword to Kanji flashcards (plus reviews)

Creating Data / Research

  • 100 Kanji a day – Auditing my 3000 Kanji sound group research
  • 100 Kanji a day – Deconstructing Kanji / Rewriting Kanji Pieces a la Remembering the Kanji
  • 10 Kanji sound group analyses (like my published data before)
  • 100 Japanese words a day – Rewrite Japanese words in Pahanngana

Okay, I need to collect my thoughts and organize what needs to be done.

I have multiple goals that I’m trying to accomplish all at the same time.

I need to first write these goals out.

Then I need to establish the daily habits that will allow me to achieve these goals as effectively and efficiently as possible.

Goals:

  1. Pass the JLPT 3
  2. Pass the TOPIK 5
  3. Publish research on my website
  4. Publish research on my YouTube channel
  5. Build my portfolio of published research so I can show them when I apply for scholarships

So what are the daily goals?

  1. Study Korean and Japanese vocabulary flashcards
  2. Study Japanese Kanji flashcards
  3. Rewrite Japanese vocabulary in Pahanngana (Modified Korean Alphabet)
  4. Publish these rewritten words on my website
  5. Listen to Japanese audio (Minna no Nihonngo)
  6. Study Japanese lessons (Minna no Nihonngo)

Wow I can’t believe it.

I’m finally done with my first draft of sorting the Kanji!

Now I need to decide what to do next.

I think I’m going to work on the Joyo Kanji first.

These Joyo Kanji are the 2,136 “basic” kanji that are considered mandatory for every Japanese person to know, so I’m going to work on these ones.

I need to make a a copy of my data and make sure that I don’t lose it!

The reason is because I want to be able to manipulate the data sets, sort them, and do some analysis with them.

All right! I’m 95.5% complete!

I’m really on the final home stretch.

Let’s keep it up!

Okay, let’s focus on my sleep in this blog post.

I’ve been going to sleep late at night for such a long time.

It’s really become a habit.

However, I need to wake up at 5:50 am in order to start working at 6:10 am.

So I really need to be strict with myself and go to sleep really early.

Ideally I should be sleeping for 8 to 9 hours a day.

So that means I should be aiming to be in bed by 9 pm, ideally.

And that means I should be finished with all my tasks and studies way before then.

All right, almost finished.

93% finished!

Only about 7% left.

It’s kind of a surreal feeling.

Is this even real?

Am I really almost done analyzing the Kanji?

Well not quite.

I’m 93% done with my first draft of analysis.

I just need to keep on track.

My Kanji and vocab studies still need to be more consistent.

I think I’m going to keep my notebook, pencil, and eraser next to my bed and do them when I wake up.

Also, I remember a few years ago when I was on a roll with my Kanji studies, I just lied on my bed and studied for hours on end.

I think I need to get back to doing that.

Wow, I only have about 10% left!

It’s amazing how much you can accomplish when you just work consistently.

Well I have 10% left and then I’ll be done with 90% of my 1st draft.

I still have to audit a lot of the data, but I think if I focus on just 2136 of the Joyo kanji, I should be able to sort them pretty quickly.

Since I’ve already developed a consistent habit for analyzing the Kanji, I need to make my actual studying habits more consistent.

I seem to have a hard time doing them later in the day, so I’m going to try to do them after my work in the morning and just try to get them out of the way as early as possible.
