All right, T-minus 2 days to leaving where I’m staying.

I only analyzed and sorted a few Kanji today.

Tomorrow I have to go run around and actually pack things up and throw stuff away.

I’m really hoping that things go smoothly and I’ll finally be finished with this chapter of 2020.

Well, the adventure doesn’t end even after Friday, and another chapter will begin.

But then again, I think everyone is kind of feeling the same thing – These are strange times we are living in.

I feel the same way.

So things will get back to kind of normal for me in about 3 weeks.

Okay, I have a lot of stuff to do and working on the Pahanngana project is not a high priority right now.

I think for the next couple days, I’m just going to analyze one Kanji and sort one vocabulary word just to make tiny progress.

I need to clean up my place and do a lot of housekeeping, both figuratively and literally. 

I’m going to need to use my time as efficiently and effectively as possible in the next couple days.

It’s time to take a break from Kanji and Japanese and time to work on other tasks. Let’s go!

Okay, another slow day. Just as planned.

I’m just doing very little until 5/30 because I’m going to have to do some important stuff before that date.

So what did I do today? 

I went back to auditing Kanji.

I’m currently at 552 plus whatever other ones I have audited above that.

It’s very interesting, because in the process of searching of assigning meaning to the visual cues of the Chinese characters, I have found that certain visual cues simply don’t have any meaning.

I use 2 Chinese-focused online dictionaries, 1 Korean online dictionary, and 1 Japanese online dictionary. I’m usually able to piece together an overall meaning, but interestingly, some Kanji pieces simply don’t have any meanings, so I have had to make up some meanings.

Since I’m going to be moving from one place to another this upcoming week, I don’t have too much time to focus on my Japanese project.

However, I was able to audit some Kanji today and check my analyses of some Kanji.

This week will be pretty slow, for sure. 

Next week, though, I’m hoping to blast through a lot of Kanji and vocabulary as I’m going to take a bit of time off and work a bit less.

Oh, yeah, what is a “Kanji Audit?” anyway?

So I’m basically putting together all the Kanji and keywords together onto one spreadsheet.

Also, Heisig didn’t assign keywords to sound signals, so I’m filling in the blanks that he left.

The past week I have been working on sorting Japanese vocabulary into Native Japanese vocabulary, Sino-Japanese vocabulary, and foreign loanwords.

It is pretty easy for me to sort words if I sit in front of the computer and do nothing but sort words.

However, when I was sorting out Kanji, I was able to multitask and do other things at the same time.

So I’m thinking that while I’m doing mandatory work where I think I can multitask, I should work on sorting out Kanji. And then when I have free time, I should work on sorting out vocabulary.

However, since I have a lot of things to do this upcoming week, I think I should change the schedule I made for sorting vocab.

Today was a very crazy day, so I wasn’t able to sort 500 words today.

I did manage to sort about 150, so I am still making progress.

I don’t think I’ll be about to sort 850 words tomorrow (to make up for the 350 that I couldn’t do today), but I’ll probably be able to catch up next next week when I’ll have more free time.

I think the lesson for me today is to just take things as they come, but make sure that I’m making progress every day.

Okay, so I’ve sorted JLPT 5 and JLPT 4 vocabulary.

So that brings me to 1992 our of 9793 vocabulary words.

I really want to finish sorting out the vocabulary as soon as possible so I can get down to analyzing them and publishing my research.

There’s so much to do, and it feels like there’s so little time.

I just need to follow my plan and work slow and steady to make progress.

Anyway, I’ve been doing a daily walk outside and today I just started listening to a Japanese grammar podcast while walking, and I got so many great ideas.

To me, it’s a lot of great fun listening to Japanese and then comparing words to Korean in my mind.

It’s this kind of stuff that I want to get out into the world, but I need to get things done step by step.

Okay, I think I just need to focus on something and keep doing it for a while so I can maintain my focus.

When I try to do too many things and too many related projects at the same time, I can’t focus.

So I think what I’ll do is just spend the next 20 days sorting 10,000 Japanese words into three categories:

• Sino-Japanese words (Japanese words of Chinese origin)
• Native Japanese words
• Foreign loanwords

After 20 days, I should have good lists for me to work on.

Then I’ll go through the Sino-Japanese words first because they are the easiest.

So a schedule could  be like this:

5/22 = 1500 – I’ve already finished JLPT 5

5/23 = 2000 – This would finish JLPT 4 vocab

5/24 = 2500

5/25 = 3000 

5/26 = 3500

5/27 = 4000 – This would finish JLPT 3 vocab

5/28 = 4500

5/29 = 5000

5/30 = 5500

5/31 = 6000

6/1 = 6500 – This would about finish JLPT 2 vocab

6/2 = 7000 

6/3 = 7500

6/4 = 8000

6/5 = 8500

6/6 = 9000

6/7 = 9500

6/8 = 10000 – This would finish JLPT 1 vocab

Well, sorting words is taking a lot more time than I thought it would.

I think I’m gonna aim to just get through sorting JLPT N5-N3 vocabulary first before I start analyzing and publishing pages.

I finished N5 I’m about halfway done with N4.

I was looking up a comparison between JLPT and CEFR and it seems like JLPT N3 seems to be similar to a B1 in the CEFR.

I think I’m okay with this goal for now, since the jump from N3 to N2 is a pretty big jump, and then the jump from N2 to N1 is even bigger.

According to my analyses, there are roughly 4000 words from JLPT N5 to N3.

So I’ll work on sorting and analyzing these 4000 words first before I get to the more advanced and less common vocabulary.

Okay, I think my expectations were too big.

I thought I would be able to make pages for 100 words a day.

Actually I think I can. 

However, I think that’s only possible if I have already sorted all the words into Native Japanese words, Sino-Japanese words, and Foreign loanwords.

Trying to both sort the words AND rewrite 100 words a day will take too long.

So I think for now, I’ll work on sorting around 10,000 words into the three aforementioned categories.

Maybe I’ll sort JLPT 5 to 3 first, then convert those words.

That will get me to about 4,000 words, which is pretty good.

Hmm… But now that I’m thinking about it, blasting through a lot of Sino-Japanese words would be really easy and I would be able to analyze and convert many words very efficiently since there would be no guessing.

So I could sort all 10,000 words, then just analyze and publish pages on the Sino-Japanese words first.
